 NEW INITIATIVES

Biotechnology Parks :
* The state offers tremendous opportunities for growth of bio-tech industries based on its intrinsic strengths, like :
              * Most international and national pharmaceutical companies located in the state
              * Internationally renowned Research & Development Institutions
              * Availability of large pool of highly trained scientists and engineers

International Biotech Park at Pune:
              * Located at Hinjewadi Phase-II, Pune
              * 136 Acres of lands have been earmarked for the park.
              * Joint Venture finalised & signed in May 2003 between MIDC & The Chatterjee Group(TCG) 
              * The Park will promote Bio-informatics to a large extent and the thrust will be on 
                 Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.

Jalna- Biotech Park:
              * The park will be located on 100 Acres of land in Jalna, the seed capital of India.
              * This park will focus on the Agriculture based Biotechnology.
              * The major thrust area of the park will be Gene discovery, Bioremediation, Fermentation
                Technology,Post Harvest Technology, Bioinformatics & Diagnostics.
              * This park will be declared as a Industrial Township with MIDC providing land at concessional 
                 rates to help to set up common research/scientific facility and for creating an Academic
                 Center of Excellence in the park.
              * MoU has been signed with MAHYCO Research Foundation(MRF) to develop the Park.
              * MAHYCO Research Foundation to develop its research facility within the Park. 

Special Economic Zones (SEZ's) :
              * Government of India legislation on SEZs to provide hassle-free environment for exporters.
              * Provides wide ranging benefits in areas including Customs regulation, Flexible Foreign
                 Direct Investment regime, Tax benefits, Liberal Foreign Exchange procedures and simplified
                 Labour Legislation.

               * Government of Maharashtra announces SEZ Policy.
              * 100 % exemption from Stamp Duty and Registration Fees.
              * Permission for Captive Power Generation.
              * All 100% EOUs will be given status of “ Public Utility Service” with Labour Laws Relaxation.
* To augment infrastructure for export production, Special Economic Zones are being set up at :
* Sinner, Nashik 2500 acres
* Kagal-Hatkanangale, Kolhapur 2500 acres
* Guhagar-Port Based, Ratnagiri 2500 acres
* Butibori, Nagpur 2560 acres
* Shendre, Aurangabad 3160 acres
* The development of these SEZs is proposed through Joint Ventures. Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) 
    has been appointed as consultant for managing the process of privatization. Global tender will be floated 
    shortly inviting Joint Venture partners.
Specialised Food Park: 
* The park will provide infrastructural support for promotion of food processing industry.
Butibori, Nagpur:
              *
The food park of 60 acres is being setup jointly by Maharashtra Industrial Development
                 Corporation (MIDC) and Maharashtra Agro Industries Development Corporation (MAIDC).
                 The project is jointly sponsored by the Government of India's Department of Food Processing Industry 
                 and the Government of Maharashtra. 
              *  This location is ideal for processing of Oranges, Mangoes, Lemon, Sweet lime, Pineapples and Tomatoes.
              *  The Park will provide various common facilities like :-
                 > Cold Storage & Warehousing.
                 > Advanced Packaging including tetra packaging.
                 > Composite Food Testing Laboratory.
             * Part of the already established Butibori Five Star industrial area set up by MIDC.
Silver Zone, Hupri (Kagal Hatkanangle ) :
*    The first specialised Silver Zone being set up at Hupri within the Kagal-Hatkanangle
      Five Star Industrial Area. Located 20 kms from Kolhapur city.
*    The park will cover 200 acres.
*    Prominent features of the park are:
         > A centralised facility for recycling and purifying of effluent.
         > Industrial plots with residential facility enabling the artisan to live and work from the same premises
         > Various amenities such as a post office, banks, schools etc. apart from a separate} police station 
             for the security of units.
*   Hupri is already a traditional well established center for Silver work.
Grape Processing Parks
         Godawari Wine Park, Vinchur, Nashik
              Krishna Wine Park, Palus, Sangli
* Government of Maharashtra has announced a visionary Grape Policy incorporating :
                 > Drastic reduction in Excise Duty on wines for encouraging value addition on grapes
                    through wine making.
                 > Grape Board is established for quality control and certification and to promote exports.
                 > Wine Institute to be set up to maintain quality at international level and to provide 
                    trained manpower.
* MIDC to set up Wine Parks with internationally comparable infrastructure at Vinchur,
  Nashik (700 acres) and at Palus, near Sangli (135 acres).
* An Agri Export Zone for grapes has been approved by the Ministry of Commerce Government of India for the 
  districts of Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Sangli Satara and Solapur. As a result, services rendered to exporting 
  units will also count as exports.

Floriculture Park (Talegaon, Pune) :
                  * Being set up at Talegaon, near Pune, off the Mumbai-Pune Express way.
                  * 375 acres of land earmarked and in possession.
                  * Park located close to existing Floriculture units such as Deccan Flora, Horizon Flora, 
                    Century International, Filarozil, Pittie Agroventure, Pudumji Plants, etc.
                  * Well laid out plots with water supply, access roads, electricity,etc
                  * Cebeco (India) have prepared the project report for the park, to be partly financed by APEDA.
                  * Farm related infrastructure to be made available at the park, like:
                             > Greenhouses / Polyhouses.
                             > Planting materials & Nursery
                             > Irrigation and fertigation systems.
                             > Pest Control Equipments.
                             > Post harvest centre
                             > Cold storage, Refrigeration van.
                  * Marketing and logistics tie-up to be arranged through the park.
                  * Phase- First allotment of Plots completed.
